Robin Williams

This man brought me so much joy when I was a child and it makes me so very sad to read the news of his passing at the age of 63. His death feels personal for me and I'd be lying if I said I didn't tear up when I read that article. I have so many fond memories of my childhood tied to Robin Williams. All I can think of is the happiness that this man brought to so many peoples lives and that the world has truly lost someone special.

Something I didn't know until now is that Robin Williams has had an ongoing battle with depression. It is believed at this point that he committed suicide.

When I opened up my Facebook and saw that the very first article read:  ``Robin Williams Dead at 63`` I immediately thought that it was fake. Then I scrolled down a little bit further and my news feed was nothing but pictures and posts from people expressing how heart broken they were to hear the news. What I find most heartbreaking about this is that if what`s being said is true, that he struggled with depression, as unhappy as he was he made the world feel just the opposite. There`s something to be said about a man like that.

I will never forget going to the theater with my mother for the first time and watching Flubber, I will never forget watching Jumanji with my sister on Saturday mornings and wanting to find that board game hidden in my attic some day so a pack of crazy monkeys accompanied  by a jungle man could chase us all over town and I will always remember how that big blue Genie could turn anyone`s frown upside down.

From his death, I hope that mental illness becomes more widely talked about and people recognize that things need to change.

Rest in Peace Robin Williams. You are truly missed.

  1. You certainly have a way with words. The world has suffered a heartbreaking loss. He will forever be the funny man dressed as an old woman, Peter Pan flying through the sky, and as you said, that big, blue genie with a heart of gold. Rest peacefully, sir.
